Errors / JavaScript errors

Script error.

A script from another website broke, and the browser will not say how.

Depends on the script: often a widget or a tracker that silently does not work.

Why it happens

  • An error inside a script loaded from another origin (a CDN, an ad, a widget). The browser hides its message and location from the page, for privacy, and only says Script error..

How to fix it

  1. Serve the script with Access-Control-Allow-Origin and add crossorigin="anonymous" to its <script> tag; the page then sees the real message.
  2. For a vendor's script, tell the vendor, or test the page in a browser with devtools open, which shows the real error.
  3. Broken Here's checker records the real message from the browser itself, so its report names the script.

Whose problem it is

Usually another company's script or site, embedded in this one.
